It is time for our #WeAreKUSD Staff Spotlight, where we will spotlight various staff members throughout the school year! 🎉
🌟Let's get to know more about Ms. Marise Jurrius, CTE Sports Medicine teacher at both Kingman High School and Lee Williams High School ❤
◾How long have you been in the education setting? In the schools for 7 months but I taught and tutored medical students in South Africa for 13 years.
◾What do you enjoy most about working at your school sites? When students are eager to learn and want to work hard at reaching their potential. I also like the interactions I have with my very supporting colleagues.
◾What is the most rewarding part about your job? When I see students think, plan, practice resilience and then succeed!! (at big and small things). Also, when they are motivated to make a successful life for themselves and being happy students.
◾️What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in the education setting? It is (probably) the hardest you will ever work, but also the most fulfilling job you'll ever have! Take it one day at a time.
◾What are your favorite hobbies? Running, hiking, baking, and hosting people! Is drinking coffee a hobby ?! 😊☕
◾What is your favorite food? Sushi 🍣 and a good South African wood fire "braai" (bbq)
◾Do you have any fun hidden talents? I won a national music show in South Africa when I was 17. I can bake about 100 crepes (we call it pancakes) in under an hour! I also worked as a medical doctor in a psychiatric hospital in South Africa for 13 years.
