WeAreKUSD

It is time for our #WeAreKUSD Staff Spotlight, where we will spotlight various staff members throughout the school year! 🎉

🌟Let's get to know more about Ms. Peggy Tarnowski, Opportunity Room Intervener (and many more!) at Black Mountain School ❤

What is your position at Black Mountain School? Opportunity Room Intervener, Cheerleading Coach, Yearbook Editor/ Advisor, Student Mentor, and I assist with Student Council as needed.

How long have you been in the education setting? I have been at Black Mountain for almost 12 years and before that I worked in California as a Kindergarten Para for 3 years. So a total of 15 years.

What do you enjoy most about working at your school site? Black Mountain was the first school to give me the opportunity to shine! I have been told by many staff members, including the administration, that I should become a teacher. I never thought it would be possible because of my severe dyslexia. However, every staff member has given me nothing but encouraging words and support. Because of their support I have just achieved my personal goal of making the Presidents list at my college. I am currently in my final year and hope to be teaching full time next school year.

◾What is the most rewarding part about your job? The students! I love watching them grow and mature. I enjoy being a constant in their lives as they go through school. I have always felt that students raise the level we as teachers and staff set for them. I make it a point to be a person they can count on for support, encouragement and guidance.

◾️What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in the education setting? Don't give up! Even if you are having a hard time and it seems like you are failing your students. It only takes one student to run up to you and say thank you for helping me, to make it all worth it. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. Part of this job is our thirst for knowledge and that can help us to learn from those mistakes.

◾What are your favorite hobbies? I love coaching my cheerleading team. Each year they want to step up their skills, learn new material and I am more than happy to work with them on it. I love creating floats and displays for Kingman's parades. It brings me joy to make people happy.

What is your favorite food? My favorite food is Macaroni and cheese. 🧀

Do you have any fun hidden talents? I love to sing. 🎤
