Lori Rauch Staff Spotlight

It is time for our #WeAreKUSD Staff Spotlight, where we will spotlight various staff members throughout the school year! 🎉

🌟Let's get to know more about Ms. Lori Rauch, 8th Grade ELA Teacher at White Cliffs Middle School ❤

◾How long have you been in the education setting? This is my 20th year in education.

◾What do you enjoy most about working at your school site? There are so many things about White Cliffs that I love. First and foremost are my coworkers. That one teacher who is always happy and positive and brings a smile to my face everyday. The one who gets my crazy ideas and helps me turn them into fun things for the students. My amazing department who is so supportive and willing to share ideas. My team, especially who always has each other's backs and is willing to go outside their comfort zone to make education positive for the students. I wish I could go on and tell you about each and every one of my coworkers. I also love the feeling of the building itself. Our giant W is accessible to all students, is open and bright, and the custodial staff does an amazing job of keeping it clean and fresh.

◾What is the most rewarding part about your job? The most rewarding thing is being able to go home every day with something positive to say. Working with kids can be challenging, but every day I can talk about something amazing that happened. This could be an interaction with a student that made me laugh, or seeing a lightbulb come on for a struggling student. Even on the most trying day there can be something to reflect on that makes you want to go back the next day and be even better.

◾️What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in the education setting? Listen to those around you. Your experience will be different, but listening to how others have dealt with difficult situations will be so helpful. Remember, they are children. They will be difficult, loving, attentive, interested, lazy, combative, etc. but they are children looking for education/connections in all ways. Finally, find your groove and what works for you and tailor that to meet the needs of your students. You need to be comfortable and happy in order to teach.

◾What are your favorite hobbies? I enjoy crafting, sewing, dancing while I clean, camping, and doing crazy projects around the house.

◾What is your favorite food? Tacos for the win!!!! 🌮🌮

◾Do you have any fun hidden talents? Not sure about hidden talents. Before education I was a professional seamstress. I can read my husband's mind. I can back the trailer up without hitting the house. I can justify every shoe purchase. I'm also a pretty good picker. If you are looking to purchase something, I can probably find it.
