We would like to introduce our #WeAreKUSD Staff Spotlight where we will spotlight various staff members throughout the school year! 🎉
Let's get to know more about Ms. Shirley Gooch, Teacher on Assignment at Hualapai Elementary School! ❤
◾How long have you been in the education setting? 7 years and 4 of the years as a TOA
◾What do you enjoy most about working at your school site? I love building connections with students and helping them see their potential, even when they’re going through challenging moments. Every day is different, and I enjoy being part of a team that truly cares about student growth.
◾What is the most rewarding part about your job? Seeing a student turn a corner, whether it’s academically, behaviorally, or in their confidence is the best feeling. Knowing I had a small part in helping them succeed makes all the effort worth it.
◾️What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in the education setting? Lead with patience, empathy, and consistency. Build relationships first. Once students know you care, they’ll be more willing to rise to the expectations you set, and don’t take everything personal. Remember: progress takes time, but every positive interaction matters.
◾What are your favorite hobbies? Going to the lake, reading, creating content, basketball and changing my hairstyle.
◾What is your favorite food? Hot/lemon pepper sprinkle wings
◾Do you have any fun hidden talents? I have a knack for turning everyday situations into funny motivational stories.
