Dear KUSD Families,
The Mohave County and Arizona Department of Health dashboards continue to show a substantial spread of the COVID virus in Mohave County. The most recent data shows county numbers at 556 cases per 100,000, a 19.7% positivity rate and a 14.2% rate of COVID-like illness visits to the hospital. As recently as this afternoon, Mohave County reported the largest number of daily cases and deaths to date.
(see chart in above document)
Because of the county data and the number of KUSD students and staff members who have quarantined or tested positive in recent weeks, KUSD schools will transition to a virtual learning model beginning January 4th, 2021. It is our hope that students can return to campus on January 19th using the AB model. You will receive information from your child’s school regarding the virtual schedule, special services and on-site programs.
KUSD wants to assure families that while unlikely, if our county suddenly moves down to minimal or moderate spread for two weeks, we are prepared to revisit the information and collaborate with our staff and board. It is our ultimate goal that we avoid short-term solutions and return students to school as quickly as possible. I look forward to continuing to work with our families and staff to provide educational opportunities during this pandemic. Thank you for being mindful of the safety of all staff and students and respecting the outcomes of our decision-making process. Please check our website regularly at www.kusd.org for the most recent updates and the current instructional model.
