Our Mission

It is the purpose of Black Mountain School to provide a safe and healthy environment where the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of all children can be met.

School Vision

All students will successfully develop the foundational knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential to become lifelong learners and responsible decision makers in an ever-changing world.

Foundational Beliefs

All members of the school community will be treated with dignity and respect.
Learning is more effective when the school, home, and community at-large work together.
Learning is enhanced when students are actively engaged in meaningful experiences in a stimulating environment.
Learning will be frequently assessed and students offered a variety of ways to demonstrate mastery.
Instruction is based on teaching common grade level objectives with the expectation that all students will reach or exceed a stated mastery performance
Working cooperatively, while maintaining a sense of self, is important to each child 's development.
Technology will be incorporated into the learning environments consistent with current research and curricular goals/objectives.

General Information

Our school opened in 1991. We have kindergarten through eighth grade. We offer many extra-curricular activities during and after school. If students participate in an after-school activity, they can ride an activities bus home with written permission.

School and Academic Goals

To improve test scores at all grade levels by providing additional training for teachers and additional test taking strategies for students.
Improve students writing and editing ability by providing additional teacher training and practice opportunities for students.
