Need Help?
Check out our Success Programs!

KUSD #20 believes that students want to learn, they want to succeed in school, and they want to graduate. If they believe that they can succeed, they WILL succeed. We offer academic programs that are relevant to their lives, and a positive, supportive atmosphere, so students will commit to attendance and academic progress. If a student needs assistance at any level, help can be found.

Programs are available for different levels of need and grade level, both within the main schools and at off-campus sites.

Students in grades K-5 who need assistance to be successful in school will have a counselor available to them, remedial programs, and on-site management of at-risk students, rather than off-site alternative programs.

Students in grades 6-8 who need an alternative program to be successful to stay in school will have a program available to them which offers small student-teacher ratio, support to stay in school, and assistance in core subjects.

Students in grades 9-12 who need an alternative program to be successful to stay in school will have a program available to them which offers small student-teacher ratio, support to stay in school, and assistance in core subjects. The TEAM program offers a "hands on" approach for students behind credits and at risk.

The Alternative Campus offers a
variety of specialized programs -

The PALS program offers English Language Learners an intensive learning environment.

The PASS program offers an environment where nontraditional students can successfully complete their secondary education.

The I-CARE program offers high school students a last chance to stay in school and work on changing their habits for the better.

Previously the PALS Program, TEAM is designed for freshmen and sophomores who are “at-risk” of not graduating.

The students will be taught in a team format, and will be offered Reading, English, and Science - with math and two electives taken with the mainstream population. The team approach provides the students a community and intense attention while still maintaining their connections to the larger high school.

This program is intended to reduce the dropout rate by assisting students in understanding their learning process while providing them with graduation requirements.

Eligibility of this program consists of the following, but is not limited to:

    • Failed at least one or more classes at the freshman/sophomore or junior level, Grade point average below 2.0, credits between 3 and 5 after freshman year, Over-age for grade level due to retention, Are below grade level in the areas of reading, writing, or math based on 8th grade AIMS scores.

    • TEAM offers integrated curriculum for the core subject areas using career pathways and hands-on projects.

Enrollment in the TEAM program is voluntary, not mandatory.
TEAM students may only enroll at the beginning of the semester.

    For 7th-12th Grade Students Who
    Chronically Disrupt the Classroom:

    I-CARE
    (I Choose Attitude, Responsibility, Effort)

    ContactMs. McCoy 753-8400

Students whose unruly, disruptive, or abusive behavior repeatedly interferes with the teachers’ ability to teach and students’ ability to learn are referred to I-CARE. Students are also referred by the hearing officer for drugs, alcohol or other serious offenses.

I-CARE offers discipline offenders the opportunity to attend school 10 hours per week at an alternative site, plus home study, to complete 4 classes to earn the right to return to Kingman High School or other alternative programs. PASS teachers teach I-CARE classes, offering small class size, one-on-one help and support. Counseling is a key component of student motivation, as one of the I-CARE teachers is a certified high school counselor.

Students who have been referred to I-CARE are not eligible to return to Kingman High School or PASS until they have completed four (4) I-CARE classes which equals 2 credits. If students have not yet received 2 credits at the end of the school year, they will be required to return to I-CARE at the beginning of the next school year to finish classes.

These students will take Math, Science, and English with self-paced individualized packets at PALS, with an elective at PASS. The PACE students will be full-time students enrolled in structured class periods 1-4 Monday through Friday. PACE will not offer the flexible schedule needed by PASS students who are primarily juniors and seniors with adult responsibilities, but a more structured alternative for younger students.

PACE students may take the PALS bus to school, but must provide transportation home.
