Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most.  All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep. 

RIF programs make a difference in children's lives every day through enriching activities that spark children's interest in reading — and every child involved with RIF gets to choose and keep new books, at no cost. RIF events and contests are designed to motivate children and volunteers to make reading a central part of their lives, and to help whole communities celebrate the joy of reading.

All seven of the elementary schools in the KUSD # 20 participate in RIF.  The program is designed for 1st grade classes, however there are future plans to include other grade levels.  Each elementary school has a building coordinator who plans the schools distribution, and orders the books for their program.  There is also a RIF coordinator who handles the program within the district.  They apply for the RIF grant, and organize the program for the district.  You can direct any questions to your child's building coordinator, or you can reach me at 928-753-6217.   

Each building coordinator will plan and organize their schools RIF distribution.  The distributions will have themes, and motivational activities to coincide with the theme.  The activities could include poems, book reading, guest speakers, field trips, snacks, or projects.  This is up to the coordinators, and staff of the child's school.  All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend your child's RIF distribution, you may also wish to volunteer your time to help.  The RIF program is designed to promote reading, and motivate the community and parents to support the children as the learn!
